Yeah, they're exactly the same tasks. It's just that achievements give you more points for doing a tougher task. Trophies give you a higher class Trophy for doing a tougher task. I play so many games, that my Gamerscore doesn't really reflect the amount of time I've put into each game. My PSN Trophies (if I actually put effort into chasing trophies) would paint a more adequate picture of how good I was because 40 Bronze trophies do not equal 3 Platinum trophies. But in the end, it's all e-penis size anyway.
