Will hard-core games cease to exist? No. There is a market, and that market is profitable. Has been for a while, otherwise companies would have gotten out a while ago. Hence there will be suppliers to that market.

Are hard-core games the main focus anymore? Well, no. But don't kid yourself, hard-core games haven't been the focus for a long time. Just go look at the game collection at your local video game store that sells used titles. We have been a small subset of the total consumer base stretching back to at least the last console generation, if not further. Especially if you consider games like Guitar Hero and World of Warcraft not to be hard-core games. Besides, what's your definition of hard-core? Do you include games like the Final Fantasy and Mario series, which hard-core players do play, but whose sales are dominated by what are now known as casual gamers?
