got one question,

How much difference does a HDMI cable make?

You can't get 1080p without it.

and how good is 1080p in comparison to what i got now?

Seeing as that the PS3 comes with Composite 480i cables, compared to 1080p, is like night and day.

Do you have an HDTV?

I got the popular samsung lcd tv with the blue light on the bottom , hd ready

Is it 1080p?

or 720p?

If it's 1080, you need HDMI, but if it's only 720, Component cables will be fine.  But either of them is better than 480i.  By a long shot.

How the hell would i know =P

Good god, you don't have an idea what it is?  Look at the box or instruction manual that it came with.  It's a huge selling point if it's 1080p or 720p.  Should be easily seen.

Anyway, after you find that out, buy PS3 component cables if it's 720p (most (all?) HDTVs use Component cables).  If it's 1080p, buy HDMI (If a TV is 1080p, it has HDMI, IIRC, but a 1080p set can still (and probably will) have Component input too).  Eitherway, both resolutions are miles above what 480i offers.
