Sony come up with the 10 year lifespan for PS3 at the beginning of the consoles life cycle, and as the situation turned pretty dark for the console a few months ago when 360 started to oversell it, Sony really took this talking and gave it relevance.

"Don't worry, PS3 will be fine, is not seeling as much as we wanted and analysts expected, but hey, we got a 10 year lifespan plan, so at the end of it we shall talk"

My question: IF PS3 sales continue this bad (and bad means, selling this less comparing to 360) will it last 10 years? Won't it just be forgotten by retailers untill it just dies like Gamecube and Xbox?

So how is Sony supposed to keep 10 years on the market a console that doesn't sell*

* Doesn't selling means selling really bad as the time goes on, the same thing that happened to saturn, dreamcast, and well you know.
