If your home computer is fine for general use OR a laptop you're pretty much better off with a console in 80% of cases. This is your standard P4 windows box or any modern laptop and seriously, people do not need to upgrade to write their letters faster.
If you don't want to pay for games, get a PC.
If your computer needs to be updated anyway and you want a desktop, then PC gaming makes a lot of sense. If not, the games will be there waiting for you at a cheap price when you do.
Current PC gamers can sort what they want out for themselves, they've already made their choices and understand the pros/cons, and so can console gamers.
However the assertion that "PC gaming is better" without clarification is completely false. "Better than what? for whom?"

Well said Squill.

Thanks!
Though I would say that the majority of people in the western world are turning towards consoles of some description for their gaming. The reason why PC gaming is so popular in the East is because
1. Its easy to pirate, so where would PC gaming be if it wasn't free?
2. Their computers are all essentially new, they've had a massive upsurge in computer use and the computeres they have recently aquired can pretty much play the latest games. What happens in 5 years when they have a glut of obsolete machinary? These computer cafes are essentially modern arcades and we all know what happened to them when you could do as much if not more from home.
3. The modern Xbox 360/Wii/PS3s aren't $100 yet.
