Here my take and I wonder how many other 'average' people would agree: I don't care for HD, period. I goto the store, see the sets playing the Nature channel in HD and it's like, oh look, you can make out every noise hair. Or they're showing hockey (yes, I'm in Canada....) and it's like, look you can see every scratch on the ice. So friggin' what?? Yesterday Sears was showing Stars Wars III, it looked terrible. They need a $199 HD player apparently....
When my TV dies I will buy a new one for about $300-500. If HD TVs are that cheap by then, I'll consider one, if not, I don't care. If I do get HD, I still have 50 VHS movies and about 100 dvds. I have alsolutely no intention of getting rid of my VHS/dvd player, ever. I will continue to buy dvds (and still buy the odd $5 VHS) as long as they're sold. Once they stop being sold, I will not move to yet another new format (and another, and another) I'll just download movies digitally from then on.
