Thats pretty cheap but its gonna be hard to catch up to almost 5 million blu-ray players. I know people say that the ps3 dosen't count but it plays blu-ray so it does.

The huge difference is that every HD-DVD unit out there was purchased for the distinct purpose of playing HD-DVD movies while there are surveys out there saying that 40% of PS3 owners don't even know there is a high-def player in the PS3. There are no reliable numbers out there showing what number of PS3s are being used as Blu-ray players, making that 5 million number questionable at best, completely worthless at worst.

QFT. Everyone that buys one of these will do so purely to watch movies.

If it did 720p, I would be more than happy with this.

This also signals that China production of these babies is starting - which means (for starters) that Asian countries will be flooded with damned cheap HD-DVD players. Which in turn means lots of pirate movies, ROMs on the web (etc..) - which in turn means huge consumer interest.

Expect to see $149 versions within a few months, and possible the first $99 HD-DVD player within 6-9 months.
