If you look at the charts for the playstation 2 and playstation 3 you will see that they do follow a similiar path. For the most part though the PS2 leads the majority of the time. Down the line you see the Ps2 get a million unit seperation which then explodees to over 6 million unit lead. Now switching it over to weekly you see that on average the PS2 does better. Unfortunately the real weak point to the PS3 is holiday spikes. PS3 holiday spikes are absolutely pitiful in comparison to the PS2.
The PS3 is doing better than the Gamecube but the holidays spikes for both systems are about the same.
PS3 just doesn't compare to the PS2. Its competition is way better than what the PS2 had, not to mention they are also better than the PS3 itself. The PS3 holiday spikes are just disgraceful.
PS3 won't be able to reach the PS2 sales. It would be pretty lucky to get PS1 sales. They aren't way off with the exception of holidays so they could still turn things around with some good business moves at the right time.
