I think 399 is a real possiblity next spring but I just can't imagine another cut this fall. People seem to forget that the 60gig units have all been produced some time ago and are most certainly produced at the top end of their production cost. Sure, production costs are coming down (and probably fairly quickly given the extremely high initial price) but most or all of these 60 giggers were produced much earlier in the process and hence are quite a bit more expensive to "liquidate". If they were to drop the price to $399 before Christmas, it would cost them dearly in terms of dollars lost per console as well as give the marketplace a general feeling that Sony is desperate -- two price cuts in 6 months and within the 1st year of introduction. I think the financial and fanboy press will eat them alive.

Once Sony clears the old inventory (and books the loss), they would be in a much better position to say that they have significantly reduced costs and can lower the price on the "new" hardware without looking desperate and creating a lot of positive momentum. At that time, if they said it, it would actually be true...

Just my .02. Keep the change.
