No, I don't think they understand that PS3 games come on BluRay discs...

They do. That's why they talk about downloading the games instead of using discs.

 

 

So they expect people on a budget to buy the PS3 and have a connection where they would want to download 20+ gigs of game?

I don't know about the whole world, but in Portugal and Sweden at least you can get a very fast connection for 20-30 € a month including tax (and phone service and some other crap). I suspect the same is true for Japan.

However I still don't see why Sony would save much money with this (due to the required huge hard drive).
