I'm a few hours into it and I honestly don't see what the big deal is about the game. The controls are terrible, it doesn't look that great, the art style is *boring*, and it's just still screams generic.
I'll finish the game before I make a fully judgment on it but so far it seems like a game that really should have just faded into the background. |
haha that's quite weird, but I got fed up with it cause I'm a control whore... I really am, and only a few console FPS games have done controls well... being CoD and Halo with a few in between but those are the big titles (aside from the newer Wii FPS games which blow other console control set ups out of the water) and I just sent this one packing and going to try out Uncharted today, Resistance is ok for a console FPS I mean I've heard of people liking worse, but some of the simple things to add in jsut wasn't there and I just can't stand playing it.

I just hate that it uses R1 and L1 for fire/alt fire. THOSE SUCK AS MAIN FIRE. It's also annoying that crouch is L2 which makes it next to impossible to crouch and alt fire. Using R2 to switch weapons is just finicky, tapping R2 to cycle weapons rarely works the first time. Then there are all the face buttons. I don't know what it is, but I just hate the way the face buttons are laid out.

Indeed that's what I thought and I tried to remap the controls to something that actually worked and no matter how I did it it felt weird, I mapped the fire and alt fire to the triggers like they should be the toggle zoom to R1 like crouch to L1 (which no toggle crouch is EPIC FAIL) and melee to R3 and even then with a better layout it felt weird to play... >_>
The thing I don't care for is just how robotic and stiff things control... you have a game like CoD and things are fluid and smooth but on here it's like as soon as you start turning it's going full speed you know? CoD it like takes off a little slow then picks up and slows down as you get to where you're aiming, making aiming all around a smoother and more enjoyable experience...

I felt the same way about the aiming, i could never really find a sweet spot in RFoM or R2 or most FPS games. But CoD4 is just perfect, i always felt i had perfect control of the aiming in that game. The best thing about it was the aiming slowed down once you entered in the iron sights, so you could give youself a crazy turning speed and still manage to pull off perfect headshots with the iron sights.
And from the looks of KZ2 they are not going to be using a CoD4 aiming setup, from the videos its pretty clear that the aiming is jerky and not very accurate overall. But FPS games on consoels will always suffer these problems until they give you better options on adjustring the speed of the aiming in great detail. One for normal and one for ironsights would be a step in the right direction.

I don't remember much about CoD4 aiming, but any other console game I can pull off fairly good aim on quick enemies. With R:FoM I am having so much trouble aiming. I actually died at the first level so many times because it takes me so long to get an enemy in sights.
I'll have to play CoD4 (I own it now, just further down on my list at the moment) and play Left4Dead again and see why I like their aiming so much better.

I guess I do have to give R:FoM one thing-- it lets you completely customize the controls and that helps out a lot for at least a lot of the akwardness. Now if only I could figure out where I want to place the crouch button (and if only they let me have a toggle crouch).
