Okay, they don't draw fire (although Warner has gotten some incoming when I teamed up with him against the grims).
Maybe the enemies hone in on you because told them so (because knows what kind of threat you may be)
But they do take out enemies. I've even tested that by sitting back and watching they mow down some enemies while I just waited for the right time to grenade them.
