PSN is not free. You just don't pay an explicit price up front for it.
They get their investment back somehow... Through some way they are making you pay for it. No bean counter in any corporation that has shareholders would give anything away for free unless they were recovering the cost elsewhere.
Anyone who thinks <insert product name here> is freely given away by <insert corporate name here> is a delusional consumer that needs to be sent on a course understanding how the economy and corporations work.
