Who the hell ever said they did? The Virtual Boy pretty much proved their fallability, and they've not been skating through this generation free of criticisms.
Nintendo is a company that had the right idea at the right time, and is riding it out as long as it can. As we have seen countless times (well, 4 times) each new generation allows the deck to be reshuffled and a new company to emerge victorious.
