Why on Earth are you comparing a series that has to meet a tight budget and time restrictions to a cinematic feature?
Compare Spirited Away or something of that ilk if you want a "real" comparison. Either way, it's just fanboy ranting. Both countries produce fine animation if the budget allows it. Neither one has a real edge in either storytelling or technical bells and whistles. They're just different styles.
And before I get any anime freaks jumping on my back talking about how fabulous Japanese storytelling is compared to American, I have one word for you... Pixar.
Just because it's geared for kids along with adults doesn't mean that their works aren't masterpieces. In fact, one could argue that it's far more difficult to create a child-friendly story and make it good than it is to create one geared entirely for adults.
