If mainstream is understood as level of reception, then yes: Today more people buy videogames than 5 or 10 years ago. The growth started in the PS2 era and it continues in the Wii era (but the real mind opener over the past decades was the PC - at least in the west).

If mainstream is understood as widely accepted level of content, then videogames have always been way more mainstream than movies or music. Nearly all videogames are mainstream.
