The U.S. hasn't taken control of Iraqi oil and even U.S. companies were not given preferences by Iraq in oil contracting. Yes, it is certainly ridiculous when you use the rationale that you provided. It makes more sense if you provide other reasons. I believe Alan Greenspan posited that the war was essentially a war to secure world oil supplies. I am not saying I agree with the viewpoint that Iraq was a war for oil, but it is not as farcical as you make it sound.
