I'm pointing out the current weaknesses and strengths of all three consoles for each genre, and there is no real winner in this analysis.

final part:

10. First Person Adventure

  • Xbox360: This is another weakspot mostly for the great number of shooters for the system (Oblivion and Fallout 3 are more RPGs). It will be a fresh experience but I doubt it will sell well unless it has a great marketing campaign. The online is almost nonexistent since it focuses on the single player experience. the doorway is open for an exclusive of this genre, but with the number of shooters tha chanced of being shadowed is very high. it depends more on Microsoft than any other publisher.
  • PS3: Has a higher chance because if the cinematic experience more related to this system and less chance of being shadowed by shooters. The focus here is a very deep storyline and interactive cutscenes with a seamless transition from and to gameplay. The problem is that there is no exclusive that can prove how successful the game can be.
  • Wii: There is a potential here for the controls, because the strenght of the genre is a set of many actions the character can perform, the real example is Metroid Prime 3 Corruption but that game does not exploit all possibilities of the genre as much as Penumbra on PC.

11. Simulation

  • Xbox360/PS3: there arent examples of this genre that we can call remarkable and is a weakspot on both of them, mostly in the consoles' marketing strategies, they are not one of the strongest focuses. a good game might sell well with a viral campaign
  • Wii: MySims marked the begining of a potential of the genre on Wii, but so far has been marked as too kiddy. the interface can be simmilar as to PC's but needs to invite playes to join and play. commercials are just not enough.

if you know a genre I haven't written about, let me know... I will study and analayze it
