It wasn't it. Did you not read the bit on the war for oil? Iraq was the first preemptive war that America ever went into. We thought they had WMD. This isn't a poorly based claim. They received WMD's back in the Cold War. The other reason was to get rid of Saddam, who was a horrible dictator, see the repression of uprisings in Northern Iraq. This man was also behind the Iran-Iraq war and the Gulf War, so we thought it was a matter of time before he did something like that again.
