Tell me my foreign friends, are there any socially acceptable substitutes for beer in your country?

In Finland the situation is pretty much so that there's beer that most people drink, cider which is something of a girl's thing (especially really sugary ones), and long drink
which is pretty for both genders to drink. I never really got used to the taste of beer, so I've been drinking long drinks, but apparently this is mostly a Finnish phenomenon, as demonstrated by the Finnish Wikipedia article for it being longer than the English one. Only the biographies of national heroes are generally longer in the Finnish wiki than the English one. =P

Now what I've seen of foreign alcohol cultures has given me the impression that it's pretty much beer, beer, beer and then stronger stuff like whiskey or vodka or whatever after that. Am I entirely mistaken?
