Generally, people don't buy a console for games that aren't out yet. Especially games that will be over a year away. I think most people are buying them because "It's a new playstation".
It's branding more than anything right now
i agree. it is the same reason why, had nintendo just done the same old boring standard thing like the other consoles (HD graphics and such) and still been the same cheap price, they would have easily lost to the plastation. sony has been leading for years, so if all the consoles follow the same standards (more or less) price wont make a sinificant difference in the buying of the consoles. basically its fanboys, although i dont want to be offensive, but its very much true.
i have a friend in school, hes a sony fanboy, argued in favor of the PSP over DS and PS3 over wii until he finally got each of them. now, he openly admits to being a fanboy, says he will buy whatever sony product comes out in the future, but, for now, prefers the wii over the PS3 and DS over the PSP completely. all he talks about is getting a wii in the future, while his neglected PS3 sits at home collecting dust. guess what his background for his PSP is? a pic of a wii. no joke. i did not just make this person up. he truly exists just as i told of him.
so yes, it is most all about brandname.
A delayed game is good someday, a bad game is bad forever.
