I guess not many people on here are from the UK, Kronenbourg is very common here and i agree it is a great lager, while its easy to find, its often badly served here but if you find a decent pub its really good. They also do a 'blanc' version (french for white) which is a very fruity and very strong version, its something you either love or hate. I dont think i can write one favourite becasue not that many really stand out and any that i really like i soon grow tired of if i drink the same beer regular. I tend to prefer beers brewed in europe, usually a bit stroner and with more flavour. Theres also some great lagers from the easy, aspecially the japanese Asahi, which has light taste and as made with sake. My actual drinking habbits are to start on a cider with lots of ice, its always very refreshing as your first drink, then a strong ale like newcastle brown or similar (theres litterally 100's of different ones here) and then drink a decent lager, too much of the stronger ales is a bad (and expensive) thing! |
The U.S. generally doesn't have good "pubs". We have "bars". In those bars they will generally have 4-6 beers on tap, generally they are domestics with maybe a heineken or something similar. There is one great place in Houston, Texas -- The Richmond Arms -- which is as English a Pub as we yanks are going to get. They have terribly bland food -- bangers and mash and such along with about 75 or so beers ON TAP. That's about the best I've seen in one single place in the U.S. though I'm sure there are others.
In Paris I went to a french bier cafe that had a "menu" of beers. The had cold storage in the basement and about 350 different world beers on tap. Talk about heaven. Any country. Any color. Any Style. I've yet to find any such place in the U.S.A.
And futher, yes, Japanese beers are pretty darn good, too. I've had most of their more common beers on tap when in Japan and they are, just like most beers, SOOOOO much better on tap than in the bottle. Sapporo on tap. Mmmmm.
