I don't know, I mean, had the PS2 stopped it's production in 2006 when the PS3 was released, I would see the sales of the PS3 right now atleast 5M over what they have sold. Reason being that people look for an alterior motive NOT to buy the PS3 and buy another console, the PS2, which plays similar games and is produced by the same company. Not everyone is up in terms of what consoles play which games, people think Xbox 360 games can be played on the Wii, Wii games be played on the PS3, and so on. Had there been only one choice and one choice only, things would be different. It's the same problem Microsoft faces with Vista, it's a better product than XP, but people still buy XP.
Another thing is that, in my opinion, they didn't advertise Blu-Ray enough. Just today I explained what Blu-Ray was to my dad.
