BTW, no game need BluRay. Games are not movies, and movies don't need BluRay either.

 

Final Fantasy VII would have been so much cooler if it was on just one CD, too.  

I love how I have to explain everything I say to Wii fanboys.  Its like teaching kids.  I love teaching kids... seriously.  I don't have time to link you to an online dictionary atm, though.  You're gonna have to "rough it".

Is the Wii Tales so awesome, that you guys honestly expect Wii JRPGs to outshine games like Lost Odyssey, Valkryia Chronicles, etc.?  I was going to pick it up, but I have't gotten around to it yet.  Too many great PS2 RPGs to finish still, to really justify it.

 

I only quoted this to make sure we are all of thee understanding that Blu Ray, or any larger storage matter is necessary to make great games (in this case RPG games). I mean, all those great Playstation 2 RPG games... Valkryia Chronicles is not stopping you from going to play the great Playstation 2 RPG games? < insert meh here >

 

Nope, it hasn't.  And there WILL be great RPGs on the Wii.  I am not disputing that at all.

Just like I won't deny that having more storage space (and more texture memory, in the case of the PS360) can, and probably would usually, make for a more attractive game, or one with more variety, from a visual standpoint.  Variety often adds alot to the immersion of a JRPG (although obviously its not the only factor -- there are a great many)... sorry but its true.

I play JRPGs for the stories.  I appreciate good visuals, but they are not absolutely necessary.  If I could magically refit all my PS1 and PS2 RPGs to have more verticies, high quality textures, etc., etc... would I?  You bet I would.  Like I said though, you don't *need* great graphics to have a good RPG.  If you did, the RPG genre wouldn't have existed before this generation...  making the OP utterly meaningless, really (if you take the word "need" at its actual definition).

They are a substantial benefit, however, along with all sorts of other space-requiring features, like full voice dialog, tons of great music, lots of extravagant cutscenes, etc.  Not required.  Just better.  Let me be the "first" to stand up and say "I like better".

 

While i like more time and money being spent on things like the charaters, plot and gameplay design.

Which isn't capable when reviewers are going to slam you if you don't have the shiniest graphics yet.

Sure you could always just spend more... but then you probably lose money...

Which sure soemone might say "Hey you're a gamer why do you care?"

To which i'd reply "Because i look at more then a present.  I'd rather the company stay in buisness."

Also, maybe it's just me... but the best and most gripping JRPGs mostly seem to be the same ones with graphics that would be seen as "Outdated".  Suikoden, Persona... etc.

The Final Fantasy series seemed to go downhill once it started caring about graphics... etc.

 

 

      The whole Final Fantasy is going downhill thing...this site likes to ban some people sometimes for defending their statements and then refer to it as trolling behavior; however, when someone makes a completely biased and uniformed statement like "Final Fantasy started to go downhill" it is just allowed to slide.

     Let's see if Final Fantasy has gone downhill.   IGN review scores for FFX, X-2, and XII all equal to 95, Play Magazine score for Final Fantasy XII = 10; Final Fantasy X's Game Rankings score is higher than that for FFXII, but both are over 90%, Famitsu gave FFXII one of their rare perfect scores.  IGN Playstation named FFXII their PS2 Game of the Year for 2006.  Where is the going downhill there?
