Go either way? Amazing Grace as a song is not something I care for personally, but I would never condone prohibiting a religious song in a school talent competition.

It was previously stated that it was the schools right to allow or prohibit the song, but I don't think it is the school's right. If the school doesn't have the right to promote the song, then they certainly do not have the right to prohibit the song.

The schools should keep out of the promotion of or the prohibition of religion. They should neither be for or against it. They should keep their mouths shut and remain neutral.

If a school were to ban a poem in such a competition because it was pro-evolution, Liberals would call foul. But if a school bans a religious theme, it's considered within their rights?

No, I don't agree. The schools should keep their noses out of an individuals free right to express themselves how they see fit (excluding cries for violence against another individual of course).

If a kid wishes to sing a song praising God, or a song glorifying mother nature and evolution, I feel that, that student should remain unmolested in their attempt to express themselves. Schools need to keep their mouths shut and out of peoples personal beliefs whether they be athiests, Christians, Jews, Muslims, or whatever.
