Well I think that the target audience for most game reviewers is 15 year olds and by extension most game reviewers are forever locked into that age. 15 year old video game fans tend to be so fixated on the idea of their own maturity that they tend to develop a paraphilia for things which they believe separate games for adults from games for kids (e.g. expensive hardware, gore, and online play with uncensored chat). Not all reviewers are like this, but I feel like at least some of it seeps into all of them.
There's a segment of video game fans that think that anything made by Nintendo is beneath their dignity and though they make up a relatively small portion of the video game market, they make up a disproportionately large proportion of games media readers.
