Agree. Obviously Bush, like any other president, is simply the most visible expression of the majority. And here in Italy too each new majority never finds time to abrogate or correct all those things it criticized when it was at the opposition (well, here the stratification of new laws on never abrogated older ones reaches a pathological level that's seen nowhere else in the world, we have a number of laws in force an order of magnitude bigger than almost any other strongly regulated, not common law, country).

I've always gotten a kick out of that too.

Here in the States, it only takes a five dozen drunk senators to pass a law, but an act of God to repeal the law.

In other words, once something become law here, it never gets corrected until a disaster happens.  It doesn't even matter if we see the disaster coming... our Congress is like, "well, it may happen at some point, but it hasn't happened yet".  Why take care of today what you can put off until tomorrow?

Just like the war in Iraq.  Everyone in Congress who opposes the war would like you to believe that they didn't like it from the very beginning (I guess they forget the fact that they voted for it is a matter of public record?)

All politicians are like pinatas really... they dangle there and do nothing until you whack them with something to get them to stop hoarding the goodies and actually do something worthwhile.
