Why is realistic graphics so important?

But without the fun a game is nothing.

I agree, however art can enhance the overall experience. True, if the game plays like a pile of monkey poo there is no reasonto care about the art.  But  I can't imagine playing a cartoony RE or a gritty Mario. The art, and the music, are vital to the overall experience.
