To be honest, and I don't mean this in a mean way, but I think your thread fails because of your assumption that people think realistic graphics are important.
People generally don't find realistic graphics important.
Look at the sales charts: Wii Sports, Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros. Halo, Super Mario, Final Fantasy, Pokémon... All these games have fantastical graphics, not realistic. Realistic looking games tend to sell much less than fantastical looking games.
