Things I learned from this thread:

HD development is far more expensive than I imagined. An HD game that was famously moneyhatted for $50 million and sold over 11 million copies still failed to make a profit. (GTA 4.) By extension, I'm pretty sure that every other HD game was a financial disaster.

An HD game has sold nearly 6 million copies between the three HD platforms. Development costs were substantially reduced by having the game engines already in place prior to development. The Wii version required it's own new game engine and individual art assets. However, Wii development is so cheap that with only 220k sales the Wii version has made more money than the HD versions. (CoD:WaW.)

Game developers are living in denial, and it will lead to ruin unless they abandon HD development now and go Wii exclusive. PC/360/PS3 gamers need to throw out their systems, buy a Wii, and forget about HD for now. Real HD gaming hasn't actually started yet, and won't start until Nintendo says so.

Or maybe they advertise wii version so that they could get at least some money back of what they have lost on making such a title for wii.

GTA 4 made a big profit, where did you get the idea that it lost money? :)

And for bioshock, we are getting a sequel. Wouldn't that indicate that bioshock was profitable?
