Almost all Christian holidays were based on pagan celebrations. Besides Christmas is now mostly commercial, it really isn't that religious (unless you want to make it so) so it shouldn't be an issue for people.
If you don't celebrate christmas my question is why the hell not? I mean its an extra excuse to celebrate, exchange presents and get pissed with annoying relatives whose name you can't remember! ENJOY
