I hate that rule to keep myself safe. Obviously if a console has a crapload of games I want I really don't need that formula. The equation is mainly there for new or newer systems.
For instance, at launch the Wii had 6 or 7 games I wanted at or near launch (within a month or two) so I got a Wii at launch.
The 360 didn't have anywhere near the amount of games I wanted at launch and didn't have the games until about a year after launch (and it just barely squeaked by). When it finally fit the formula, I got the console.
The PS3 still doesn't fit the formula for full price (currently, it has two games for me that I can't get elsewhere) but luckily I got that one for free.
