In any case, the profits from Windows games occlude the console profits, and that's just the first occluding factor here.  You cannot really see the performance of the console aspect of MS through those simplistic reports.  The 360 may be doing much better, or much worse, than these reports imply.  The X360 is a necessity for the continued success of Windows in the home, however, so it shouldn't matter whether or not MS profits from it, directly, or not.

There is indeed a certain amount of occlusion going on, but you can't just throw stones like claiming they hide the Xbox's numbers under their windows client licensing fees...

I was under the impression that there was a licensing fee for that "Made for Windows " sticker you find on almost every game box.  You apparently know for certain that there isn't, or that the money goes somewhere else, so I'll just take your word for it here.

The point is occlusion, however.  And not by an insignificant amount.  Its hidden to the point of being indeterminable.  Not exactly an uncommon business practice, I might add, so its not as if MS is doing something "exceptionally sneaky" -- they are just regular sneaky, like everyone else.
