Videogirl said: People should just stop rating games based on their length... when you go to the movies you don't question the fact you pay exactly the same price for 1h30 or 3h00 of entertainment, and the 3h00 long movie isn't necessarily the best of the two. Same with books. So length cannot be considered by any means a criteria of quality. Why should Gameplay score be prevalant upon story ? If some people like to play games with lack of storyline and dull characters it's their choice, but how many people like story driven games ? FF Anyone ? FF are the most frustrating and repetitive games out there but people love to play them 'cause they are thrilled every time they get to see another cinematic or get to learn a little more about the story and the characters. A game it's not all about gameplay and length, it's also about immersion and entertainment.  |
Apples and Oranges, and for more reasons than games costing ~10x more than movies.
Regardless, short films cost less to see than a full feature, both in a theater and on DVD - so your argument is essentially moot right there. However, there have been plenty of reviews that lambast films for either being too long, or too short.
Books are the same way since length generally impacts price. Have fun buying Atlas Shrugged for the same cost as Anthem.
The importance of story is dependant on the type of game. For example, Tetris has no need for an indepth investigation on the reasons why you must organize blocks. However, no one said story isn't important, just that there are other things more important. Because your playing a game, the way you interact with the world(gameplay) is fundamentally important - without this, you're just playing something like a night trap. FMV games could potentially have outtanding stories, but they would never be good games.Â
But you're really just missing the point entirely. In the reviews, they did state that the game was entertaining and immersive. However, they said $60 is far to muh for such a short experience, with unlockables that can be had online right now. If this game was a more reasonable $40, or better yet $30, you'd see different reviews. Length matters when you're dropping quite a bit of cash on a game, not so much when a movie is signifiantly less than a dinner at a decent resturant.
