What did the warning stickers say? Don't bump the console while disk is playing.
Its pretty obvious if you know anything about roational inertia that a spinning disk will try to stay on its current axis if the console is bumped there is a very good chance of the disk getting scratched. I'm not saying they isn't a way to design around that, but still.
