Mario started on Donkey Kong the arcade game, known as Jumpman the carpenter. He was then renamed Mario, after Nintendo of America's Landlord Mario Segale.
Mario Bros, in which Mario's profession was changed to a plumber, was as an arcade title, and was ported to the Atari 2600, 5200 and the Nes in 83, with versions on the C64, Apple II and the PC-88(whatever that is) in 84 and the Atari 7600 and XEGS in 88.
So really he's arcade first, Atari and Nes second.
Thankyou Wikipedia!
Yup, that all sounds right.
But SUPER Mario Bros... I remember playing that at the arcades (many, MANY moons ago...). Was that a NES title before arcade? Or did the arcade come first? (guessing NES?).
