Just out of curiosity, what do you find wrong with Bioshock that makes it far from perfect. The game is incredibly well rounded and an artful masterpiece. I've owned -- original Pong, 2600, Vectrex, 5200 Intellivision, coleco, C64, Amiga, NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, Genesis, 3DO, Jaguar, GBA, Game Gear, DS Lite, Saturn, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, 360, Wii and I know I'm missing another somewhere. Along the way I've played every genre known to man and owned a heck of a lot of games. In my opinion (and it's just that -- an opinion), Bioshock is one of the best all around titles I've ever played in my history of gaming. There seem to be a lot of other folks who think the same. Again, after actually seeing edge score this game the same as Space Giraffe (a brand new xbox live arcade game), which is basically a psycodelic tempest throwback, Edge, again in my opinion, was smoking crack when they rated these the same. It defies even the most fanboyish gamers logic... |
If you look at a lot of games with similar ratings on Gamerankings.com you'll notice that quite a few of them ended up having reviews which were 20% (or more) below their average ... Part of this is reviewers who don't like the genre of the game who end up building expectations, about this game because of how highly reviewed it has been, and being that it is not able to work miracles it gets punished.
The ONLY exception to this is The Legend of Zelda: OoT which is (by many) considered to be the most impressive game of its time; if it was released today without any changes it would still probably average around 8/10 because so few games have met the level of quality that it did 10 years ago ...
