I borrowed my neighbor's GBA Sonic game. I left it outside in May.
Around September I was in my backyard, I bent down to pick up something and by accident my eyes fell across a gray triangle sticking up in the mud. It was the top 20% of the cartridge, one of the corners, the rest was in the mud. I picked it up and found it to be covered in caked on mud and slime. I took it home and opened it up to find the entire inside full of mud and plant matter. I washed the chip under running water using my fingers to rub it clean. I dried it with a towel and tried it out. It worked flawlessly.
I really wasn't surprised, Nintendo builds it stuff like a tank:
