Yes I have a bias against shooters. Just... regular run of the mill shooters, I have a ton of trouble playing them. If they play like a generic shooter, I need to have a decent story, a sci-fi theme, and some awesome weapons helps ^^ I actually CAN'T play shooters that are set in modern or previous wars :/ I find them boring to no end. And yes, the general FPS stuff is just that, general FPS stuff. Of course it takes time to master, that's part of the genre. But it's still standard as far as FPS's are concerned, sniper rifles are lethal, headshots do more damage, grenades are aoe, pistols... usually suck :P That stuff. The stuff that can be found in every first person shooter, like... ever. That's the stuff that Halo's primary gameplay consists of, and that to me is generic. I'm looking for that secondary trait of the gameplay, something that set's it aside from the regular fps stuff. That's the hook that I need to bring me into a shooter. I need that extra level of strategy. The casual frag fest's just aren't my thing :P |
So what your saying is you prefer strategy FPS. Which is generic it just requires teamwork more and a plan.
Forgive me if I'm wrong but not have a game designed as a strategy FPS does not make it generic. Even so games like TF2, Battlefield, and Ghost Recon are still generic. (I used those games because they are the best games which are different from frag fests)
However they are still features. The game is just slower. And they are easier to be good at. And often become sniper sesions.
Again the things you call second mechanic I call generic. As there are plenty of these types of games.
