| ChronotriggerJM said: Ok, ok, so you just mentioned a bunch of features that make halo a better experience, but not a single "mechanic?". I'm simply referring to mechanics. I went out of my way to state that Halo is one of the best Generic shooters on the market. Because that's what it is... The way the game plays is generic. You can record video's, of said generic gameplay. You can customize a level, in which people will generically play in. You can play it's campaign mode with 4 players, however, the game your all playing together... plays... like a generic shooter.... THE GAME IS GENERIC @_@ I don't care how many features you slap onto it, it's still generic @_@ Every weapon is line of sight, and you take cover against stuff to dodge bullets. These are very very very, common things in first person shooters. It's a simple FPS -_-; There is nothing difficult or complicated to master, other than simple.. fps stuff. That's why I say it's a generic shooter, with ton's of polish. Polish as in additional game modes, advanced tracking features, all the stuff you mentioned in your earlier post. You can add anything you want to the game, but it doesn't change the game your adding it to. And vehicles are certainly not focused on ;/ Ton's of games have much better vehicle mechanics, but that's an entirely different conversation. One can like chess, and still like checkers at the same time >_> If halo was any more complicated, the game wouldn't have it's overall appeal. Gears of war is generic as well, just generic in third person, Killzone 2's campaign will be Generic, Call of Duty titles are usually generic, they are simple games that are easy to wrap your hands around. Innovative ideas are often too risky and or complicated, thus they alienate a target audience. I'm talking simply based on gaming mechanics, the story's can be of different themes and natures, but I'm referring to that "basic gameplay". It's all very very generic. |
You have a gripe with the shooting genre in general..? No wonder; and you're taking it out on Halo. This "fps stuff," as you mention it, is difficult to master to a point. Beastly sniper in Halo? Takes skill, unlike CoD. If it takes skill in Killzone 2 as well, it's still going to be difficult to master. It's not just simple "fps stuff."
Oh, and:
"Ton's of games have much better vehicle mechanics, but that's an entirely different conversation."
You really need to stop cherry-picking just to be right. I said FPS. OBVIOUSLY there will be games with better vehicle mechanics (uh, racing game anyone?). That's why I mentioned, again, FPS. Halo is unmatched in it's vehicular combat for a FPS, there's really no point in arguing about that. >_>
Look, you're bias is showing again, this time against FPS's.
