I think they have the right idea with the Wii, just horrible marketing. The all-play Madden and other games would sell a lot better if they just advertised it as a family game. If parents knew that it actually might be fun to play WITH their kids, they might buy the game. But I haven't seen any such advertising.

Is that the only way to sell software for wii?

No, it's not the only way. However it could an effective way to sell these particular games. The only Madden commercials I saw were aimed at the traditional Madden audience. If they expect Madden sales to improve, they have to target other conumers outside of the existing demographic.

I haven't seen many "play with your kids" commercials for madden 360 and it sells quite a lot. But you are right, wii/360 demographics aren't comparable and it reflects on what kind of software sells on those platforms.

That's a self-defeating argument. Madden All-Play is that kind of software, and it didn't sell according to expectations because it tried to appeal to the same old audience in its advertising - the sameo ld audience who would know that this isn't the kind of game they wanna play. It is not an apples to apples comparison.

Bad marketing equates to missing your taget demographic, not to a lack of one.
