Some orders are needed to complete A rank mission, others just make your life a lot easiers. Some I never ever use.
My most used orders are as follow:
Awaken
Awaken All
Boost Defense
Boost Evasion
Caution
Defense All
Evasion All
I rarely use any of the offensive orders, almost all orders are buffs to keep'm ticking (except for the accuracy boost for when I go sniper happy).

Best Characters for each class:
Lancer:
Hector(best tank killer in game) and Jann or Audrey (for Ulti. armor perma damage boost)
Assualt
Vyse and Rosie: strong stats and best potentials for assault imo.
Engineer
Eh, they're pretty much the same, but I like to use any Darcsens to trigger Rosie's 4th potential.
Sniper
Marina: only sniper with Ult. Accuracy, awesome sauce
Best Scout
Alicia: (godly; resis xfire, double move, full heal and final potential are all amazing)
