I finally sat down with it this weekend for a good long while and I wasn't really impressed. It's not bad, don't get me wrong, I just don't think it lives up to anywhere near the amount of hype it had.
The levels that come with the game are fun. There are annoying parts (moving into foreground and background are annoying) but all in all the basic game is fun. Again, not anything amazing but still fun.
I then decided to give the user created levels a go and my worries were true-- they were mostly suck. I tried the high rated ones and all of them but one (Little Big Ninja Warrior) just weren't good.
There were a bunch of music ones where you just sit there. Whoopdeedo, you made a song and I get to sit there. I guess one person tried to change things up by making you push the block that pulls the music. Go them.
Then there were some remake levels. There was a Mario one that was interesting but just not ever good. There was a really large Sonic one that showed a lot of promise but it had incredibly shitty framerate, the music kept breaking up, and then I couldn't finish it because of a game stopping bug.
There were random levels like a Ghostbusters level that was a cool theme and nice with all the effort they put into it but the level itself sucked.
I think the coolest level I actually saw was one that got me 8 trophies in 30 seconds. That one got a high rating but it wasn't actually fun, I'm just a trophy whore.
So yeah, not a bad game itself but nowhere near the hype it's getting. And so far all my worries about the user community have come true. All those shitty levels I played were rated high, I'd hate to see the low rated ones.
I'll probably fiddle with the level editor sometimes soon so I can weigh in on that.
