I'm not sure either since I was able to download Half-Life: Source becuase I bought Half-Life 2 back in 2004.
Either way, I enjoyed the original Half-Life more without the Source enhancements, especailly because you can use the HD model pack to make the characters, monsters, and weapons look nicer.
Still, I'd recommend to keep an eye on the Black Mesa mod and see how that turns out.
