I think it is. From the minute the 360 and PS3 were unveiled they promised that they would deliver amazing graphics in the most beautiful way possible, selling HD as a big feature. Many gamers have adopted this belief very greatly to the point where they fail to realize the issues this brings up. Creating HD graphics costs a pretty penny and thus budgets are higher than what they should be. Then there's the text problem. Some games feature text too small on SD TVs, raising the fact that game developers are focusing too much time on HD gaming. The worst part is that some gamers actually forgive this sort of thing because they believe its a way to force people to go HD.
Its a topic that has been heavily discussed because some believe it adds worth to a game when its really a superficial feature that not everybody is ready to accept.
