Kinda ironic that you pick what is in my opinion one of the most retrotastic game of the year as a shiny example of innovation in FPS. The genre being very hard to innovate aside, L4D feels incredibly familiar to me in a very nostalgic way.
If anything, L4D proves that sometime you just have to keep things simple and go back to basic.
Valve just does it with class.
