I’ve no doubt that Microsoft would want to offer games via digital distribution instead of a physical media format, which would be great for their business model of subscription fees. However, whether or not the worldwide infrastructure will be available at the time of release is the only thing stopping them from realising this. That being said, as it’s been mentioned before the ideology of the Xbox/playstation is to control the living room – they want to be the ONLY thing connected to your TV. This will most likely result in a blu-ray player integrated. They could perhaps, offer a digital-distribution only sku with no optical drive for those with Internet plans to support it though.
