You seem to bring this topic up quite a lot (Sony's finances) so I presume you've done a lot more research then me (which is virtually none) and you're probably more buisness minded. So why would a company in such trouble still be on a spending spree?

The problems which are affecting them are really recent, both the economic crisis and the ensuing currency fluctuations. They're just exacerbated by their previous weaknesses (which are for the most part not specific to them, but kind of general among electronics companies due to high competition).
Haven't you noticed how much more tame and silent they've been since then?
