^Thats the whole point. They are working to keep up with moore's law. Moore's law is not a mirror of the natural flow of the technology.
There is no getting around the fact that silicon chips (as they are now) are not the future of the computing industry. For a real leap (like from tubes to transistors and transistors to ICs) there will need to be a whole new technology created.
