Blu Ray retail price is some kind of bad joke.

Sainsbury's North London ENGLAND this evening.

Hancock DVD 9.97 GBP
Hancock BluRay 19.97 GBP

This is ludicrous.....the price difference is so large only a fool would buy the Blu Ray version.

Still you know what they say about a fool and his money.

or someone who wants a good quality picture while watching a movie. BTW there must be millions of fools.

Is the improvement worth paying twice the price of DVD ?

"Paying twice the price" is relative. But $10 more for HD video AND sound, yes if this is your movie. It's at least worth renting at about the same price. But your example isn't the greatest since the 2 disc DVD version and the 2 disc Blu-ray version (the only Blu-ray version) is only a $5 SMRP difference.

But this is exactly my point.

Imagine an early Blu Ray adopter who wants to buy Hancock.

No second disc.

No interviews with the Fuc&!ng directors mother about how diligent he was during the "creative process" and how he's always been so gentle (Bless).

No interviews with the cast twittering on about how "crazy" they all were during shooting !

No this guy just wants the 90 minute film in HD.

Tough say the Blu Ray consortium. You bought the tech now be prepared to be fleeced at every turn. Its a mandatory 2 disc purchase for you.

Weve got profit margins to hit for Gods sake.

"Early adopter" was two years ago. This is NOW with the Hancock 2 disc Blu-ray version. And the same thing was and is NOW happening with DVD's, single version now - better version later. Your point is... pointless. It's all about choices. It's something I promote while it's something you deny. Also, go look on Amazon. Band of Brother DVD is a $1.50 less than the Blu-ray version. I'll pay the $1.50 extra to get the signifigantly superior version from all the reviews I have read.

If what you say is true and people do have a choice with Blu Ray, fine. I can happily stand by a format that gives people the choice of content and price point.

However I have seen no single Disc release in the UK for Hancock on Blu Ray and its more than twice the retail price of the DVD.

That to me is punishing the consumer for daring to want to watch the "superior version"

UK is not the entire world while you can buy optical media almost anywhere around the world.  Specificly, different regional markets work differently.  I'm an original Siren fan of the PS2, but the sequel was never released in N.A. (where I am), only in Europe and Japan.  So I never got to play the sequel.  That still doesn't change my positive opinion on Siren.  N.A. got the shaft, but that's alright because you never get all you want in life anyway so I don't go projecting that negativity on everyone else.
